UPDATE: Results: What You Said

June 1st 2026

The results from last week's ‘Your Art Opinion’ quiz proved interesting.

The biggest surprise wasn’t what people remembered.

It was how they remembered.

Most people didn’t describe events. They described the atmosphere.

A sunset in Tunisia. The smell of diesel on a farm road. A childhood village. A fireplace that changed someone's life. Deer appearing silently around a campsite.

Again and again, the memories returned as light, colour, place, scent and mood.

One respondent remembered:

"Golden orange, view from the window of a hotel in Tunis, with all the exotic scents and the calls to prayer."

Another wrote:

"Family home on the farm. Looking across the yard to the dusty gravel road."

And another simply said:

"Lake Superior and my grandparents."

Colour appeared throughout the responses. Bright colours. Golden light. Warm colours. Colours that changed with the feeling of the memory itself.

Perhaps the most interesting discovery came from a question we almost didn't ask.

Many respondents said they had never considered turning a memory into art before. Yet most felt their chosen memory deserved a place somewhere in their home.

That made us think: Perhaps we already know which memories matter most. We simply don't always think of art as a way of preserving them.

Looking through the responses, one idea kept returning.

People do not remember life as a collection of things.

They remember light.

They remember colour.

They remember a place.

Most of all, they remember how that moment felt.
