Collector Favourites
The commissions collectors return to again and again.
These works have inspired reimaginations, conversations and some of Linda's most memorable collector stories.
COLLECTOR FAVOURITES COMMISSIONS GALLERY
'Flamboyance'
SIZE: 9" x 14" | MEDIUM TALLBOY & MINIATURE ON STANDS
The collector’s inspiration:
A returning collector wrote asking "Do you have pinks? What do you think about doing a flamingo?"
Linda’s vision:
When I was commissioned to create this Flamingo, I was hesitant ... Pink just isn't my colour - and it's difficult to obtain in glass too.
But rather than say 'No' I decided to rise to the challenge and start stretching the boundaries of the flamingo palette.
And a few months on, it's still one of my favourites from the year.
I also designed a new stand, which I call a Tallboy, designed to hold portrait-shaped longer tall pieces.
The mounted panel is complemented by a flamingo head Miniature.
The collector said:
"Linda!!!! It is absolutely fabulous!!!! More so than before!!"
'Yearning'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL ON STAND
The collector’s inspiration:
The collector was me.
Linda's inspiration
Having previously developed the Cubist face and the face in Earrings I wanted to explore the beautiful possibilities further.
The question I still ask myself is "What is she really thinking?"
The collector said:
"Yearning" is the crown of my personal collection, which is really fairly extensive.
She is even MORE spectacular when actually seeing her in person!
I loved her from the first minute I saw her and could not get her out of my mind until I purchased her and she was delivered to me.
Now she resides like a queen on the top of my living room bookcase and I can see her from my breakfast room and kitchen. She is ALWAYS visible to me.
I can NOT state emphatically enough how very happy I am that she is MINE."
'Cobalt Cathedral'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL ON STAND
The collector’s inspiration:
"I’d like to explore a redesign of the ‘Wells’ piece or the ‘Chequer’ piece. I lean more towards the cooler colors rather than reds and oranges. I like the metal stand and would want to sit it on a table amongst plants and a taupe-gray wall - open to suggestions"
Linda’s vision:
One of my most popular works is 'Wells', an architectural piece based on the ancient Saxon cathedral in Wells, Somerset.
An existing collector, who was gradually buying larger and larger pieces from me, asked if I could reimagine 'Wells' in cooler colours from the original.
We came up with Cobalt - and a completely different perspective view of one of my favourite works!
The collector said:
"Looks great, can’t wait to see it in person! Thanks so much, it’s been a pleasure"
'Biarritz Diptych'
SIZE: 22.5" x 19" | TWO LARGE PANELS
The collector’s inspiration:
This was a ready-made piece that the collector simply wrote in and asked to buy.
This glass artwork consists of two fused glass panels, designed to complement each other, and work perfectly together. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts!
Linda's inspiration:
The design came from me admiring the architecture in Biarritz, France. I got a strong feeling for the water and geometric buildings in the sunshine. I've always loved Hockney's depiction of swimming pool water, so this also influenced the look of the pool.
The collector said:
"The glass arrived in perfect condition and Dan absolutely LOVES it!"
'Orangerie'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL ON STAND
The collector’s inspiration:
The collector was me! I wanted to make this as it reminded me of warmer times and places.
Linda's inspiration:
Orangerie spells warmer times and places captured in a large glass art roundel.
Inspired by my visits to glass houses across Europe, it captures the feeling of a tropical glass house, with its wide variety of lush vibrant green plants.
This is the moment I wanted to capture - smell, heat, air, colour, lushness, light - the moment you walk in the door!
The collector said:
I did this for me - but unfortunately it sold within a month so I can no longer see it. Oh well, never mind!
'Gallery montage'
EIGHT-PIECE MONTAGE SCENE
The collector’s inspiration:
The collector was me. I'd recently visited a Leonardo sketchbook exhibition in Manchester and just loved the way everyone stood and stared at these amazing works.
Linda's inspiration:
The unusual idea for me was the face of the woman in the middle. I wanted her to be a jewel amidst a crowd of people and other artworks. Subsequently the Cubist woman's face has become a singular theme of mine. And she started here!
The collector said:
I was the collector, and it went out of the door faster than anything I'd ever done.
The buyer said "I absolutely love my piece and it fits in perfectly with my glass bar"
She was so pleased, she even sent me photographs of Gallery in her home :)
'Floral'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL ON STAND
The collector’s inspiration:
This was a birthday gift to his wife.
He said: "I found you on Instagram and absolutely love the work you do. I wanted to reach out about commissioning a piece for my wife in a style similar to her favorite art / artist but tailored to her as a Christmas / 40th birthday present."
Linda's inspiration
This was my first ever floral roundel, all curves, no easy straight lines, so it was a challenge that happily worked out perfectly!
The collector said:
"It was great collaborating with you on this."
'Wells'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL ON STAND
The collector’s inspiration:
The collector was me.
Linda's inspiration:
After visitng Wells Cathedral in Somerset I was overwhelmed by the architecture.
When first entering the cathedral I couldn't miss this extrordinary Gothic arch structure which became the central theme in the work.
It desperately needed recolouring to express its own truth - rather than the brown stone of the cathedral itself.
I'd never reimagined a cathedral before :)
The collector said:
"I am so excited to have your work and look at it every day!"
'Couleurs de St Barth'
SIZE: 15" | LARGE BOWL
The collector’s inspiration:
The collector, who lives near Antibes in the South of France, wanted to gift his friend who was visiting from the beautiful Caribbean island of St Barts.
He asked me if I could make a bowl that reflected the colours of the sparkling blue sea his friend saw from her balcony every morning.
Linda's inspiration:
It's always exciting to work for a collector who comes back for more.
Fortunately I was going through my 'blue period' after producing 'Cobalt Cathedral' so I was quite thrilled to take this palette even further and match it to the tropical Caribbean sea.
It was such a feelgood project!
The collector said:
"I love Linda 😊
Francine will be pleased with her "Couleurs de St. Barth" bowl.
It was received on Monday, on time 😊"
'Butterflies & wine'
SIZE: 18.5" | LARGE ROUNDEL & MINIATURE ON STANDS
The collector’s inspiration:
It started with a message.
Rob said "She just loves your work. Always showing me the glass you produce - we just love it.
The bigger the better. Bright and colourful, with butterflies ... and maybe a glass of white wine."
That message became this fused glass artwork.
Linda’s vision:
‘Butterflies & Wine’ was made in secret as a 40th birthday gift for someone who had been following me for years.
Butterflies for her mum.
Sauvignon Blanc for their memories.
What an absolute joy to create something so full of love! ☺️
The collector said:
"You and Rob have done such a fantastic job of capturing memories and beauty in these pieces of glass. I couldn’t be more pleased and grateful for this gift that I get to look at everyday."
"I love how you asked for, and then followed, my input about the piece I wanted and THEN drew up 3 separate designs for me to choose from which went way and above what I expected.
You have been wonderful to, I hate to say “deal” with, because that falls short of how my experience with you went.
I feel that it was more of a collaboration together.
Thank you so much, I love them both!"
