'Orchids'
BACKSTORY
After seeing some of my botanical work last summer, a returning client asked if I could create a wall panel of orchids for her home. She sent photographs of orchids she loved - sometimes for the colour, sometimes for the shape of the petals. At one point she wrote, “For the orchids I would like the white ones with the maroon centre… one turned just a little one way, the other slightly the other.”
I’ve grown orchids in my studio for many years, so they are very familiar to me, and they translate beautifully into glass.
My first designs were more colourful than the final piece, but they helped her see what she really wanted. Gradually the idea evolved into a darker, more dramatic background to make the orchids stand forward.
When we reached the final design, she wrote, “I can’t wait to see it on the spot I have saved on my wall.”
'Mono Lisa'
BACKSTORY
"Can you do this in black and white?"
After seeing my portrait work, Lisa wrote to me with an unusual request. Her home in Maryland is entirely monochrome - black, white, and very modern - and she wanted a Face design to live in that space, with none of my usual vivid colours.
It felt like a bold idea. The challenge was to create something just as powerful using only black, white and everything in between, and to find enough different monochrome glasses so the piece still had movement and structure.
We also created a small accompanying Miniature with a Spotify code for Chaka Khan’s ‘Love Me Still’. Artwork, music and interior all connected together.
My Instagram followers helped her choose the name: “Mono Lisa.”
When it arrived, she wrote, “This came out absolutely beautiful.”
'Toucans'
BACKSTORY
I think the idea for the Toucans had been somewhere in the back of my mind for a very long time. When I was growing up, my mum collected Guinness Toucan memorabilia, so those enormous colourful beaks were always around. Years later, when I began designing this piece, those shapes and colours came straight back.
Toucans are extraordinary birds - full of colour and character - and perfect for glass, which can hold colour and light at the same time. I wanted to place them in thick foliage and sunlight, as if you’ve just caught a glimpse of them in the trees.
The piece became a three-part collection - a large Roundel and two Miniatures - like a small group of birds together in the thicket. It feels joyful, warm and alive.

'Gardening'
BACKSTORY
This work, ‘Gardening’ and its companion ‘The Sea’ were done in response to a client who wanted to commemorate her late parents.
Her mother particularly liked irises. The decision was whether to go for a broader garden view, or go into something more abstract and “irisy”. As you can see the more abstract interpretation won out by a mile.
Subsequently this has been one of my most popular works if measured by clicks and views and likes, and I'm delighted to say, has already led to two further botanical commissions.
I felt a deep passion when producing this work. There’s something I can't explain that quietly enthralled me every time I worked on it, coming so close to these vivid and brilliant colours. For example, the natural iris purple evolved into becoming a blue as it felt so much stronger. I hope you like it too.
'The Sea'
BACKSTORY
This the second part of a wall panel diptych along with ‘Gardening’. The client’s father was at sea a lot and brought her home massive shells and conches from tropical shores, which she still has.
What a special memory.
Interestingly the client is the Emerita Artist in Residence at Chester Cathedral in the UK, so I was very honoured to be selected by a noted artist, who must have plenty of artist friends to choose from.
Drawing shells which are almost perfect fibonacci spirals was really exciting. It surprised me how satisfying they were to draw.
The client said “These beautiful works in fused glass will take pride of place in my new home!!

'Palm House'
BACKSTORY
Inspired by Sefton Park and the great glasshouses of the World - a celebration in colour, cut and originality.
This is 'Palm House' - the most intricate and ambitious piece of fused glass art I’ve created to date.
'Cobalt Cathedral'
BACKSTORY
One of my most popular works is 'Wells', an architectural piece based on the ancient Saxon cathedral in Wells, Somerset.
An existing client, who was gradually buying larger and larger pieces from me, asked if I could reimagine 'Wells' in cooler colours from the original.
We settled on cobalt and a completely new twist on the 'Wells' original.

'Flamboyance'
BACKSTORY
A returning customer wrote asking "Do you have pinks? What do you think about doing a flamingo?"
How could I refuse such a challenge?!
As you see, the mounted panel is complemented by a flamingo head Miniature.
My first ever flamingo!
Note: a Flamboyance is a group of flamingoes, although we only see one in this picture!
'Yearning'
BACKSTORY
Gaze is designed to stand out across a large room.
Even at a distance, its intricacy and vision are noticed.
Its unusual power is a great conversation starter.
You might ask "What is she really thinking?"
Note: the original 'Gaze' was renamed as 'Yearning' by the client
